Abstract

The present review is to describe the evolution of transmission media from conventional land phones to modern smart phones with reference to media used for wired and wireless communication technologies. This review explains in detail about several wired transmission techniques and protocols and wireless transmission methodologies and protocols which fill a research gap from last decade to recommend Wi-Fi technology as best invention for smart phones. Based on entire literary analysis, comprehensive comparison table for both Wired and Wireless communications on basis of various parameters such as usability, cost, efficiency, flexibility, coverage, interference, reliability, mobility, speed, security etc is summarized. This study concludes with advantages and disadvantages of wired and wireless communications. Both technologies have applications in different fields like military, telecom, medicine, satellite communication, mobile communication etc.
