Abstract

As with many other chronic illnesses, patients with pulmonary disorders have increased rates of psychiatric conditions, in particular anxiety and depression. As pulmonary diseases progress, they profoundly affect patient's physical, vocational, and emotional functioning. In addition, psychological conditions further decrease quality of life and make management of pulmonary conditions more challenging. In this chapter, we discuss the psychiatric conditions accompanying lung disorders leading to lung transplantation, including epidemiology, risk factors, significance, and treatment.
