Abstract

The sorption of the plasma proteins human serum albumin (HSA) and human fibrinogen (FIB) onto hemodialysis cellulose substrates was investigated by the surface-sensitive ATR-FT-IR spectroscopy. By means of this method, the authors monitored quant. the kinetics of protein sorption onto acetylated and unmodified cellulose, which are used as hemodialysis blood filter material. Furthermore, secondary structure alterations of the adsorbed proteins were detected and assigned. The spectroscopic findings were compared with the results of zeta potential and contact angle measurements in corresponding sorption expts. and were qual. related to blood compatibility.
