Abstract

Colour is an integral part of human life. In the Qur’ān, Allāh Almighty  reveals certain colours  in explaining  certain situations. The use of green colour in the verses of the Qur’ān certainly meant different things and thus requires  the interpretations of scholars in order to understand the context or the exact meaning of these verses. This study aims to analyze the verses of the Qur’ān that mention words of green colour  directly and indirectly as well. To achieve this aim, the study will use inductive method by collecting the verses in the Qur’ān which mention the words of green colour and then analyze the meaning of these words in the context of each verses of the Qur’ān. The results from this preliminary analysis found that there are nine verses of the Qur’ān that mention words of  green colour which  are partially affect the situation in  this world and the other verses explains the situation in the hereafter, which all of these verses bring the positive meaning such as peace, tranquility and relaxation.  It follows that the selection of using green colour in the Qur'an is  parallel with human emotions and desires that tend to natural environment.
