Abstract

A novel asymmetric thermoplastic polyimide (ISAS-TPI) with good space environmental stability was developed. The world’s first solar sail mission: IKAROS consisting of four large area polyimide thin film petals (total diameter 20 m) with various attached electric devices was built and launched on May 21, 2010.
