The judicious use of appropriately preformed injections can aid significantly in the ability to diagnose and treat patients with spine pathologies. Injections by definition are target specific and, to be useful from a diagnostic standpoint, must be done with imaging guidance. To be appropriately therapeutic they must also be judiciously used in appropriately selected patients while following appropriate technical guidelines. When done appropriately these image-guided injections have a large body of literature demonstrating their efficacy for certain disease conditions.
