Children on the Street: Reasons of Their Existence and Their Commonly Observed Effects

Abstract

Abstract—This study desired to determine the underlying reasons contributory to the existence of the children on the street of the city of Ozamiz and the common effects that they have observed. The descriptive survey method was used in the study and it utilized the statements from online articles to generate the survey questionnaire that suits to the chosen environment. This study found that there are more girls than boys on the street of the subject city. There were three factors that pushed the respondents and strongly contributed to their existence on the street of the city. These are being an orphan, the war and the natural disasters. The results did not exclude poverty. The study also showed that verbal abuse from the public and child born on the street are sometimes the most common effects observed by the respondents. Furthermore, the study showed that majority of the effects (as utilized in this study) happened in few times. This signifies that the reasons which are classified into two groups namely: the push and pull factors, and the effects commonly observed by the children on the street in the city are lesser in degree.
