Abstract
The article discusses the use of big data and analytics by American health insurance company Independence Blue Cross in identifying members at risk of developing life-threatening diseases. Other uses include cutting expenses in the costly health care system, the algorithms generated from data sources such as medical claims, lab results and prescriptions, and to improve customer interactions. The use of machine learning algorithms to spot cases of undiagnosed diabetes is also noted.
