Abstract

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are ideal target to many attacks due to the large number of vehicles communicating with each other continually and instantly through a wireless medium. The main goal of VANETs is to enhance the driving experience and provide road safety and efficiency. Security is one of the safety aspects in VANETs where saving human lives is very critical. Denial of service attack, in particular, is one of the most dangerous attacks since it targets the availability of the network services. The goal of any type of DoS attack is to interrupt the services for legitimate nodes or prevent them from accessing the network resources which leads to node isolation. This paper presents a deep insight into DoS attack forms and their impacts in VANETs. It classifies different types of DoS attacks according to the mechanisms of each attack.
