Abstract

This chapter is dedicated to the experiences of gay fathers. We describe the process of becoming a father and on how gay men negotiate the meanings of fatherhood. Furthermore, we focus on how practical issues, such as the process of getting pregnant, manifest themselves as well as how different fatherhood arrangements are understood and dealt with. The construction of a so-called rainbow family—parents, partners and prospective parents who identify as being gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex or transgender, and their children—are analyzed in relation legal issues, parental responsibilities, parental leave and thoughts about gender-equal and gender-neutral relationships.
