Abstract

Purpose: Establishment of a kinesiological evaluation method for analyzing the influence of garment on physical and psychological autonomy in dressing activity faced by PDPS in rehabilitation. Materials and methods: The proposed kinesiological evaluation method is based on motion analysis of the dressing process using physical and psychological indicators: Motion Standard Time (MST), Motion Difficulty Degree (MDD) and Motion Independence Degree (MID). Subjective evaluation is used to obtain evaluation data regarding independence and difficulty of the dressing process using linguistic evaluation terms. Fuzzy set theory is applied to quantify the linguistic evaluation data. A case study of evaluating garment-opening design is presented to explain the implication of the proposed evaluation method. Results: Dressing activity will be influenced by garment construction such as the opening design. PDPS will benefit from the well-constructed garment in rehabilitation for both physical and psychological aspects. Conclusions: Physical and psychological autonomy in the dressing activity of PDPS can be influenced by the choice of apparel products. Rehabilitate role of apparel products for the disabled people should be identified and provide the adaption solution in garment design and production, improve the life quality and well being of PDPS.
