The ethical concept of professionalism in medicine must do a great deal of work. The concept ought to be transnational and transcultural and endure over time. The concept should also be comprehensive in scope, applying to medical practice, medical education, and biomedical research. The concept should be practical, providing a framework to guide culturally sensitive and culturally competent clinical judgment, decision-making, and behavior for practicing physicians and trainees across all specialties and subspecialties. This is a daunting set of requirements for any concept to meet. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
