Abstract

This paper presents an efficient compound image compression method based on block and layer-based segmentation techniques. Two hybrid models are proposed for segmenting compound images. The first model combines layer-based and block-based techniques for segmentation and compression of compound images. Several experiments were conducted to evaluate both models in terms of compression ratio, PSNR and time. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
