Eating disorders have one of the highest mortality rates among psychiatric conditions. However, these conditions are difficult to detect by both primary care physicians and mental health professionals. As a result, eating-disordered patients often go unrecognized and untreated. The utilization of standardized rating scales and structured interviews can increase the recognition of these conditions and also improve treatment planning and outcome monitoring. This chapter provides a detailed review of the available self-report instruments and semi-structured interviews for the eating disorders. The Eating Attitudes Test, the Body Shape Questionnaire, and the Eating Disorder Diagnostic Scale are appended. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
