Abstract

This work presents a synthesis on the stratigraphy and geochronology of the Quaternary Period after the chronological updating ratified by the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS-IUGS) and the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA). We show the more recent (updated) stratigraphic, chronologic and paleoclimatic data regarding to the Iberian Peninsula, as well as the classical approaches and bibliography for these subjects. We offer a general view on the Prehistory in the framework of the more characteristic climatic episodes or events in the environs of the Iberian Peninsula during the upper Pleistocene, Holocene and Anthropocene. This synthesis wants to be a summarized guide of the Quaternary chronology for all those people working in the Quaternary Period without a proper scientific knowledge on the topic.
