It has been recognised for many years that power ultrasound has great potential for uses in a wide variety of processes in the chemical and allied industries. Some of these applications have been known for many years1,2,3 while others are undergoing a renaissance and developing into new and exciting possibilities as in the use of power ultrasound in therapeutic medicine (Table 1).
