Abstract

This 303-page book titled 'The Welfare of Domestic Fowl and Other Captive Birds' is volume 9 in the series 'Animal Welfare'. This book is written in English and contains 12 individually-authored chapters. Each chapter contains an independent list of references. The first chapter begins with an introduction to this volume, rest of the chapters are divided under 2 different parts. The topics covered are: human-bird interactions, the welfare implications of housing captive wild and domesticated birds, training companion birds, the welfare of captive birds in the future, physical environment and its effect on domestic fowl welfare, nutrition/feeding and drinking behavior in domestic fowl, the impact of disease on domestic fowl welfare, poultry management, welfare and ethical assessment of housing for egg production, stunning/slaughter and the future of poultry welfare.
