Abstract

A cumulative effort, defining the state-of-the-art conceptual information about the underlying principles governing the microbial interactions. Roles of numerous biomolecules, pheromones, and small signaling peptides are presented for in-depth characterization of the microbial interactions at the microcosmic levels. Recent technological advancements resulting in the transformative overhaul in understanding quorum sensing (QS) is given considering the enormous potential and applications of microbes in various industrial processes. A complete description of QS is designed by contemplating the mechanisms functioning under different scenarios such as human microbiota, plant-microbe resilience. Both natural (small peptides) and artificial (synthetic inhibitors) approaches restricting the microbial virulence are elaborated to provide a broader perspective on QS.
