Abstract

The paper defines Information Technology (IT) as the acquisition, processing, storage, dissemination and use of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a micro-electronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications. This definition is used to discuss the nature of IT. The basic requirements for Information Technology are outlined; the nature of the IT standards and acceleration of their development are considered.
