Abstract

Monitoring battery state correctly is the basis for a micro-hybrid system. In order to cut down costs, a method of monitoring battery state only by voltage is designed. It is derived by analyzing the characteristics of the micro-hybrid system and battery charging/discharging. By using this proposed method, battery sensor, which is widely used, can be cancelled. The vehicle test results show that the designed method satisfies requirements of a micro-hybrid system and the system works correctly. Comparing to the system with a battery sensor, the fuel consumption is the same in standard condition. But in real traffic the rate of fuel saving is 15 % less. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
