Abstract

The dividing line between hyperplasia and benign and malignant neoplasia is not distinct, either in human or experimental pathology. In the case of the thyroid gland, it is often very difficult to establish the type of lesion seen. Spontaneous thyroid tumours are rare in mice. Therefore these animals represent an excellent experimental model for testing the carcinogenicity of various substances in the thyroid.
