Abstract

This paper discusses the corrosion properties of the multi-phase stainless steels at a pH which is too low for passivation film to exist in hot hydrochloric acid. Each single phase of which multi-phase stainless steel is composed was prepared for a laboratory simulation and was evaluated for corrosion properties. These results indicated that the corrosion rates and the selective corrosions were not based on the rest potential of each phase, but were related to the current density in the polarization curve near the rest potential in each phase.
