Abstract

This paper studied the heat dissipation characteristics of an electronic module in near space. The heat conduction and dissipation characteristics of three different cold plates manufactured of aluminum, vapor chamber (VC) and heat pipes (HP) were comparatively studied. The heat dissipation at different altitudes and the thermal resistance composition were calculated and quantified. The results indicate that in the altitude of 20 km, convection heat dissipation is comparable to radiation heat dissipation. Beyond this altitude, the convection heat transfer effect becomes worse and worse, and the radiation proportion increase. And the optimization strategy of cold plate at different altitudes is summarized; the specific optimization scheme and the optimization effect of each scheme are showed at the end of the paper. The conclusions and rules of this paper have direction significance for the subsequent thermal design in near space.
