Abstract

The phenomenon of online games addiction has negative consequences on the lives of individuals. Some of the factors that cause addiction to online games are loneliness and lack of individual self-control. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between loneliness and self-control with online game addiction in adolescents.  The research respondents were 52 teenagers who were selected by purposive incidental sampling with the following criteria: 15-18 years old, living in Surakarta, and meeting at least 5 of the 9 criteria for online games addiction. Collecting data using the Online Games Addiction Scale (Cronbach's = 0.891), Loneliness Scale (Cronbach's = 0.931) and Self-Control Scale (Cronbach's = 0.848). Analysis of research data was carried out using multiple linear regression. The results of the analysis show that simultaneously loneliness and self-control with online games addiction have a significant relationship (p<0,05; F_table = 3,18). The coefficient value R = 0.643, meaning that there is a strong relationship between the predictor variable and the criterion variable. Partially, loneliness does not have a significant relationship with online games addiction (t_table= 2,000958; p>0.05) while self-control has a significant relationship with online games addiction (t_table = 2 .000958; p<0.05). The contribution of the two predictor variables to the criterion variable was 41.3%.
