Abstract

The objective of the work was to evaluate the effect of organic matter in the cultivation of Fuerte variety avocado in Moquegua, Peru. We worked on a 7 year-old plot, with a 5 x 5 planting frame and gravity irrigation system. A randomized complete block design (DBCA) was used with 3 treatments (0-10-30 t/ha of organic matter) and 3 repetitions. For each experimental unit, three rows of nine plants each were considered, with a total of 81 plants in an area of 2025 m2. The study was carried out for 15 months and the weight and number of fruit per plant, total yield and soil characteristics were evaluated. For Moquegua conditions, the use of dry cattle manure in the cultivation of Fuerte variety avocado did not have a significant effect on the yield and weight of the fruit. It was observed that the application of manure increased the percentage of organic matter, decreased the apparent density and increased the cation exchange capacity, improving the physicochemical properties of the soil.
