Abstract

A number of age-related changes to the nails can occur, without known association with medical disorders. • Some nail changes can be associated with underlying medical disorders, enriched in older adults. • Hence, recognition of specific nail changes and their potential associations can be clues to medical issues that should not be missed. • Brittle nail syndrome, onychomycosis, and nail-associated malignancies are increased in older adults, and treatment requires special considerations in this population.
