In recent years, an increasing number of organizations - including universities, research centers, and businesses - have begun to use Cloud Computing technology as an essential and promising tool for optimizing existing computing resources and increase their efficiency. Among the most important advantages it offers is a scalable and low-cost computing system which is adapted to the needs of the client, who only pays for the resources used. On the other hand, the use of High Performance Clusters for solving complex problems is increasing. If we unify both technologies, we will be able to produce flexible, scalable, and low-cost High Performance Clusters. This paper analyzes the operation and performance of a High Performance Cluster on a Cloud Infrastructure. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
