Perceived complexity is analyzed in conjunction with cognitive stability in the context of potential use in human-centered design. These human factors are useful in the process of understanding co-adaptation of people and technology, and consequently for the evaluation of the maturity of a product. Expertise and experience play an important role in the definition and refinement of these two concepts. This paper presents a first account of such concepts in the context of aircraft cockpit design. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
