Abstract

Vehicular Networks or simply VANETs are important component for the development of Intelligent Transportation System. Due to the features of VANET, data dissemination is an important issue that has to be addressed. In this paper we discuss the types of information involved in the dissemination process. We discuss the existing approaches of data dissemination. A new approach is proposed for the dissemination of data using network coding. In the proposed solution the packet is forwarded to vehicles after coding only. The simulations show that the proposed method reduces the number of broadcast packets being sent on the network. Also increases the channel throughput. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
