Abstract

This chapter aligns phase-oriented trauma intervention theory with the goals of achieving safety, permanency and well-being for child welfare agencies and organizations. Phase One in trauma interventions is all about achieving Safety and Stabilization and can be accomplished for organizations through establishing physical and psychological safety for staff. Phase Two of trauma intervention, Integration, can be understood in an organizational context as the development of strategies to achieve permanency, or workforce attachment, through the development of staff supports that encourage retention and organizational commitment. Phase Three, Consolidation, can be achieved through developing and sustaining future-oriented learning organizations that support, nurture and sustain staff in their work of helping traumatized children and families move toward well-being.
