Abstract

Optical compensation films and polarizers are key components to realize the display performance in wide-viewing angle for all the LCD modes. Optical compensation films can neutralize the angular dependence of LC cell’s birefringence at oblique angles, leading to wide-viewing angle performance. In this chapter, the basic principles of optical compensation, the application for wideviewing angle LCDs, the manufacturing methods and materials, and the challenges of the films will be discussed.
