Abstract

A single-crystal 181Ta-NMR experiment was performed in KTaO 3 in an unsuccessful attempt to observe the splitting pattern characteristic of electric hexadecapole coupling. A linewidth of about 12 kHz was observed, and assigned to residual first-order quadrupole couplings arising from imperfections in this nominally cubic crystal. Experimental difficulties prevented the removal of the electric quadrupole (and magnetic dipole-dipole) couplings by multiple-pulse linenarrowing methods. © 1986 American Institute of Physics.
