Abstract

In today modern medical world, digital medical imaging is becoming more common. A powerful processing system is needed to handle a large data set which accuracy and time is of the essence. This paper presents wavelet based medical image coding which is adopted from JPEG2000 Part 1 image coding standard to provide lossless image compression. The image compression scheme is implemented in a grid computing system to aim a powerful computing capability and to cut down computing time. Wavelet-based image processing naturally fit with grid computing because the original image can be split into smaller blocks, which later can be processed independently. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.
