Abstract

The article discusses the management of esophageal cancer. Topics covered include the anatomy of the alimentary canal focusing on cervical, thoracic and abdominal, its risk factors such as smoking, bacterial infection Helicobacter pylori and diet, and the implementation of surgery, chemotherapy and external-beam radiation therapy as treatment. Also mentioned are the implications of radiation therapy such as diarrhea, radiation pneumonitis, and radiation-associated heart disease.
