The use of wetlands to treat acid mine drainage is reviewed in relation to background and construction techniques; constructed wetland performance; wetland processes which can affect mine drainage chemistry; metal removal (by plants, algae, organic substrates, or by oxidation, hydrolysis or reduction processes); and future prospects for constructed wetlands.
