Abstract

Lake management strategies must be based on sound scientific knowledgeand are subject to constant changes. The International Commission forthe Protection of Lake Constance (IGKB) is a good example of asuccessful international commission which acts on a broad consensusamongst the many interests and users around Lake Constance. As such, eutrophication was successfully battled, and nowadays integral waterprotection, including qualitative, quantitative and morphologicalaspects, is performed. This reflects a new philosophy and conception ofnature and environmental protection.
