Studied the effects of public self-consciousness and observer manipulation on causal attribution and task performance. Human Ss: 162 normal male and female Japanese adults (undergraduate students). 38 high public self-consciousness and 38 low public self-consciousness Ss were selected. Ss were observed or not observed as they solved anagram puzzles. Tests used: The Self-Consciousness Scale (A. Fenigstein et al, 1975).
