Abstract

New research directions bring basic changes in the design of future fifth generation (5G) cellular networks. Millimeter wave communication (mmWave) has emerged as a key to enable the next generation. This perceivable survey focuses on identifying this new technology and its potential impact on 5G, by synthesizing high quality researches. This paper highlights the most recent and the newest substantive design choices, the features and the challenges to overcome in the mmWave area. We begin by defining the characteristics of mmWave communication. Using this framework, we evaluate the changes that will bring to the 5G new radio (5G NR) while using this frequency band. This article does not provide a final solution because researches are still in progress in this field, but it transmits the latest vision of the future architecture.
