Abstract

Safety is a critical element to the business success of the passenger airline industry. It is because of the imprecision or vagueness inherent in the subjective assessment of the experts that we use fuzzy set theory to deal with safety evaluation problems. In this paper, A novel airline safety evaluation method based on fuzzy TOPSIS is proposed. The merit of the method is that it can deal with both quantitative and qualitative assessment in the process evaluation. In addition, the method can be easily applied to safety evaluation with little computation load. A numerical example is used to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
