Abstract

Dr Do-a-lot explains that dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin. The definition is, however, used inconsistently. The term may be used to describe a broad range of inflammatory skin diseases. Some prefer to use the term ‘eczema’ instead of dermatitis. Many use the term eczema synonymously with ‘atopic dermatitis’, although others are more specific and use the term ‘atopic eczema’. The dermatopathologists prefer the term ‘spongiotic dermatitis’.
