Abstract

The emergence of begomoviruses (genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae) in recent decades appears to be closely related to the increased prevalence of Bemisia tabaci (Jones 2003; Mansoor et al. 2003; Varma and Malathi 2003), and is associated with changes in crop cultivation, increased movement of people and plants, and changes in cropping practices such as the intensive use of insecticides and/or overlapping of susceptible host species in crop rotations (Morales and Jones 2004). © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010.
