Abstract

The India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) collaboration is planning to build a 50 kt magnetized Iron Calorimeter (ICAL) to do precise studies on the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters. The collaboration has chosen RPCs made up of float glass electrodes of 2m×2m in area and 28,800 in number as the active detector elements for ICAL detector. The RPC detector performance mostly depends on the glass quality and its characteristics. Hence we have carried out a detailed characterization studies on the float glass samples from various manufacturers and presented the results here.
