Abstract

Research was undertaken in 1977 to identify characteristics of Pawaia daily life and social organization, which could guide decisions regarding the future of the Pawaia if the dam at Wabo, PNG, is built. Information is given on subsistence, descent and land rights, marriage, and beliefs. Suggests some possible consequences of changes in diet and income on the Pawaia if the project goes ahead.-M.Barrett
