Abstract

[D. Fay's] view [that 'transformational errors' (TEs) could be explained as a result of the malfunctioning of the transformational mechanism during speech production] / an alternative explanation that emphasizes such performance factors as competition, time pressure, and mental work load will be discussed discussions start with a brief description of Chomsky's transformational theory, followed by Fay's transformational hypothesis / then, an extended version of the competing-plans hypothesis . . . is proposed and tested experimentally as an alternative explanation of the TEs [transformational errors] (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
