Abstract

In this paper, we propose an enhancement to the functionalities of an existing database management system for the support of real-time distributed database processing. The main problem in designing such a system is maintaining good performances for processing queries on a given site while the database is being concurrently updated. The system was originally intended for real-time telecommunication applications, but remains open to new classes of applications (CAD/CAM, software engineering, multi-media, distributed systems, etc.). In this paper, we present telecommunication applications and the data management services required to support them. We introduce the architecture of SABRINA-RT which supports the needs of real-time telecommunication database applications.
