Abstract

This paper presents a brief analysis of an escalator human factorsda-taset collected in a London Underground (subway) station in England.The dataanalysis highlights and quantifies a variety of escalator human factors.Usingthe buildingEXODUS evacuation software, a series of evacuation scenariosof ahypothetical underground station are then presented. The simulationresultsdemonstrate that escalator strategies and associated human factorscan have aconsiderably influence upon an evacuation compared to using stairsalone.
