Novel Li3V2(PO4)3(cathode)Li3V2(PO4)3(anode) Li-ion vanadium battery (MLP-323850 soft pack battery) was successfully assembled using Li3V2(PO4)3 as both cathode and anode materials. The preliminary results of physical and electrochemical tests indicate that for the battery system, an average work voltage of 2.2 V and specific discharge capacity of 162.1 mAh can be obtained with high capacity retention of 87.9% after 100 cycles at a current density of 250 mA g?1. We predict that the simply configured Li3V2(PO4)3(cathode)Li3V2(PO4) 3(anode) battery can be a unique and safe battery system to be used in energy storage fieldswithout considering the electrode direction. © 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
