Community psychology in Poland

Abstract

As of now, there is no formal professional psychological association or branch of academic psychology devoted exclusively to the topics and interests of community psychology in Poland. Consequently, the postulates and aims of community psychology are usually presented, if at all, within university courses covering applied and social psychology. This chapter is an attempt to shed some light on historical and political forces that thwarted the development of community psychology in Poland.We believe that because of political and societal changes initiated by the 1989 collapse of the communist system in Eastern and Central Europe, there are finally opportunities in Poland for community psychology to flourish. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
