Abstract

The Intensive Care Unit is characterized by a scene of innovation and specialized nursing care to patients considered high complexity, increasing the need for a professional profile to harmonize service between high technology and assistance. The nurse in this context requires a profile that lets you align technical and scientific knowledge, the field of technology and humanization of care. This study identified and analyzed the profile of nurses working in intensive care units of a teaching hospital. It is a multiple case study, qualitative approach and the sample of 24 nurses in two critical units. The techniques used in this study were direct observation and semistructured interviews. The results showed nurses predominantly female, mean age 32 years and with little theoretical and practical experience in high complexity assistance, demonstrating the need for constant mobilization of experts supported by scientific knowledge for a safe and quality care.
