Abstract

Civil construction sites are considered to be one of the hazardous environments because there are risks that can cause damages to the site as well as laborers. This study may help protecting construction laborers and prevent accidents in a major construction site in Madurai. This study targets effectiveness of present safety management. A questionnaire is designed to identify the origin of accidents on the site. It is circulated among all members from higher ranking to lower-ranking people present on the site. Analyzing safety factors by using relative importance of index techniques indicate laborers are working with carelessness without the awareness of warning sign and improper communication between laborers. Those are all the primary causes of accidents on the site. To overcome the primary causes of the accident, an internet-of-things (IoT) based on an innovative safety model is designed to reduce the number of accidents by alerting laborers.
